Rett syndrome is lifelong, and adults continue to need proactive monitoring rather than care only when a crisis occurs.
Key points to discuss:
- Keep routine primary care, vaccinations, dental care and age-appropriate screening up to date.
- Review seizures, breathing, sleep, swallowing, reflux, constipation, nutrition, mobility, scoliosis, bone health and pain.
- Monitor menstrual or menopausal issues where relevant and consider how they affect seizures, pain and wellbeing.
- Review medicines regularly for benefit, side effects and interactions.
- Maintain communication access, meaningful activity, relationships and community participation as health needs change.
