Daily movement and physical activity in Rett syndrome

Post by admin »

Regular movement can support health, participation, comfort and enjoyment. The best programme is one that is safe, individualised and realistic for daily life.

Key points to discuss:
- Build short periods of movement into routines rather than relying only on therapy appointments.
- Options may include supported walking, standing, cycling, swimming, dancing, floor play and assisted transfers.
- A physiotherapist can review gait, balance, fatigue, orthoses, pain and safe handling.
- Watch for changes in breathing, colour, pain, seizures and recovery during activity.
- Adapt activities to preserve choice and enjoyment; record what works.
