Contractures, standing and range of movement

Post by admin »

Reduced movement and persistent postures can contribute to muscle shortening and joint stiffness. Prevention and comfort plans should be personalised.

Key points to discuss:
- Ask physiotherapy to establish a baseline for joint range, posture, gait and functional movement.
- Review supported standing, walking, positioning, splints or orthoses where appropriate.
- Do not force stretches through pain; families need clear demonstrations and written guidance.
- Check skin and comfort with every orthosis or positioning device.
- Reassess after growth, surgery, a fracture, loss of mobility or a change in pain.
